Faithful Global Anglicans
Some of you may have seen the news that the global collection of Anglican churches faithful to the Bible (GAFCON) has announced a major split with the figureheads of the church in England. In their statement which you can read in full here they write:
"We declare that the Anglican Communion will be reordered, with only one foundation of communion, namely the Holy Bible, “translated, read, preached, taught and obeyed in its plain and canonical sense, respectful of the church’s historic and consensual reading” (Jerusalem Declaration, Article II)."
"Today, Gafcon is leading the Global Anglican Communion," said GAFCON's chairman Archbishop Laurent Mbanda. "As has been the case from the very beginning, we have not left the Anglican Communion; we are the Anglican Communion."
You can find a statement from the head of Moore College - Mark Thompson here.
The bottom line is this - nothing will change in practice on the ground for us as Sydney Anglicans. We should pray that those who are leading these changes will be full of wisdom and grace. We can be thankful for their willingness to lead strongly in accordance with the teaching of the Bible. If you have further questions please come and see me and pray for the good news of Jesus to be faithfully upheld as our priority and passion.
