Faithful
God can transform our lives with His grace and mercy. On Sunday I spoke about how St. Augustine came to faith through the diligent prayers of his mother (Monica) and engaging with the scriptures. His famous reflection on the worthlessness of pursuing our pleasures and desires unchecked is beautifully encapsulated in this quote:
"You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you."
This series we're focusing on putting Jesus First because He alone can bring the peace and rest that our hearts long for. St. Paul knew this 400 years before Augustine;
"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:4-7 NIV11)
Just like Augustine our journey of faith must include engagement with God in prayer and through His Word.
